UPDATE 12.30PM: An elderly man who suffered critical injuries in a three-vehicle crash on the Warrego Hwy has been airlifted to hospital.
Queensland Ambulance West Moreton Senior Operations Supervisor Mark Nugent said paramedics and doctors had been able to stabilise the man, 84, at the scene before he was airlifted to Brisbane.
“(The man) has significant chest injuries and required significant interventions from the doctors and paramedics on scene to ensure he was stable enough to fly out in the helicopter to the Princess Alexandra Hospital,” he said.
Mr Nugent said the elderly man was one of three people injured in the three-vehicle crash near Minden on the Warrego Hwy.
Another man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition with finger and hip injuries.
A woman, believed to be aged in her 70s, was taken to Ipswich Hospital with a minor chest injury.
She was transported in a stable condition.
Mr Nugent said the elderly man had suffered the more serious injuries in the collision which shut both the east and west trussed lanes of the highway to permit the helicopter to land.
“There was some significant and substantial delays to both the east and west trussed lanes of the highway,” he said.
Westbound traffic is down to one lane and under police direction, while eastbound lanes remain blocked.
Mr Nugent said the three vehicles involved had “significant harm” and were “traversing both east and west tied lanes”.
It is understood police will open an eastbound lane on the Warrego Hwy when possible.
