Car plunges into the sea after going over cliff edge in Orkney

Emergency services were called to the incident around Five.30am on Saturday near cliffs at Yesnaby where they found the car in deep water

A CAR has plunged into the sea after going over the edge of a cliff in Orkney.

Emergency services were called to the incident around Five.30am on Saturday.

After searching the area they found the car in deep water.

It is not known if anyone was inwards the vehicle.

A statement from Stomness lifeboat said: “The Stromness lifeboat was paged at Five.38am to reports of a vehicle going over the cliffs at Yesnaby.

“On arrival at the scene, the Y-boat and lifeboat began a search of the area.

“A vehicle was located in deep water out of reach of the team. A search was then carried out of the surrounding cliffs and beaches with nothing found.

“The lifeboat returned to Stromness and was refuelled and ready to go by 9am.”
